/ TOM SHEAR / producer, mixer, hot wing enabler Assemblage 23 > tomshear @ comcast . net Tom is best known as the mastermind behind Assemblage 23, and his label, 23db Records. In addition to the world-conquering A23, Tom is also a producer / remixer par excellence.
23db Records was originally founded in 2004 as a label on which Shear could release some of his less commercial side-project material. However, it would end up being Seattle-based Backandtotheleft's debut album, Obsolete, that would act as the debut for the label. Even without the benefit of advertising or extensive promotion, the album sold well enough that the band gained the attention of Metropolis Records, who reissued the album.
In 2006, 23db released the debut full length album from Nerve Filter, a side project of Assemblage 23. Nerve Filter had previously released several compilation tracks and remixes for bands such as Scar Tissue and Converter, but in its nearly ten year existence, a full album had never been completed. The release was met with positive reviews from the press and many fans were surprised by how drastically different from Assemblage 23 the project was.
Later in 2006, Shear heard from an old friend, Charles Rehill from the band Lost Signal. Shear had produced Lost Signal's previous album, Catharsis, and Rehill was asking for some production advice. However, when Shear heard the album, he took interest in putting the album out himself. The pre-release buzz around the album is already significant, and it seems certain to be another successful release from 23db.
SD6 is proud to have the first 2007 release on 23db. |

/ PAUL J. FURIO / engineer, programmer, stud(io) wizard Static Engine > pjf @ staticengine . com Paul began making music in 1994 while attending Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York. It was there that he was influenced by the popular industrial acts of the time: Nine Inch Nails; Ministry; Skinny Puppy; Chemlab; and My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult.
In late 2004, Paul made the difficult decision to end the 10-year tenure of his own creation, Static Engine, scaling it back to a hobby. In his words, "By scaling it back to just a hobby, I could enjoy music again."
Paul is currently employed by a major software development company in the Seattle area. |
