We were contacted for this three-band show approximately three months in advance. It turns out three months is exactly the amount of time it takes for one band to break up and another the cancel their performance. We kept our commitment and played the show, only to find ourselves sandwiched between two proto-industrial-punk bands. The lineup and style of music had completely changed. While the night did not retain any musical "flow," Brandon, Nicole & I had a fine time with an impressive turnout of our closest friends. It's nice to have people in your lives that will show their support without hesitation...on a Sunday...at an unlikely venue!
Prior to taking the stage we discovered that the venue had been unable to reach the promoter as of 3 pm that afternoon. He did not come to the show either. Without judging him too much, as we do not know what his circumstances were, that is just NOT cool. The sound guy, however, made up for it ten-fold -- finally procuring our drink tickets, and managing to nail some impromptu vocal effects as though he'd heard our set a million times. He had not.
As we took the stage, a small but appreciative audience offered further reassurance that the night was not a bust -- even engaging in a dialogue with Brandon throughout the set. A few audience members approached us later, paying compliments and thanking us for the show. Glad we were able to please -- given the circumstances that continued to mount against us!
We thank those of you that were able to make it! Hopefully we'll see you at the next show!
